The Advice I Received from Joe Rogan Changed My Life
Written by: Scott W. Holland
When I first started this journey, I poured my heart into building birdhouses, growing my business, writing newsletters and blogs and creating videos. Each birdhouse I built was handcrafted with care, using only the best materials available. There was real satisfaction in knowing that I was creating something of quality. But for me, birding has always been more than just building homes for birds. It’s deeply personal. It provides a way to connect with nature and listen to the quiet calling of our soul. I believe there’s one source that connects us with all creation. And I believe that birding can help us tune into that source. I wanted to share that feeling and help people to reconnect with their true purpose and worth through the beauty of nature and the wisdom of birds.
The feedback I received from my birdhouses, blogs and videos was positive and encouraging. I was very appreciative but despite that, I felt like something was missing. I wasn’t getting the traction or reach I was hoping for. Doubt began to creep in. I started questioning myself, wondering what I was missing, what I needed to change or what more I needed to do. Then I heard something that stopped me in my tracks.
I was watching a podcast where Joe Rogan shared a story about singer/songwriter Oliver Anthony. Oliver had asked Joe for advice, and Joe’s response was simple but powerful. “You’ve already made it” Joe said, “there’s nothing more you need to do. Just keep doing what you’re doing. You’ve done it, just keep doing it again and again and again. That’s all”.
This hit me hard. I realized that I had been searching for some magic bullet, some secret formula. But the truth is, I already found my purpose and I’m living it every day. That’s all I need to do. Joe’s words reminded me not to change who I am to please others, and not to sell myself short for someone else’s gain. This was exactly what I needed to hear.
To be clear, Joe Rogan didn’t say that to me directly. But in that moment, it felt like he did. I internalized that message as if it were meant for me. And that small shift in perspective gave me the boost I needed to keep going and trust in myself again. Sometimes encouragement comes from unexpected places. You never know what will resonate or when it will arrive. But when it does, it can change everything.
